In 1978 a large percentage of San Francisco's residential areas were limited to single-family-only use. For the past 50 years, neighborhoods like the Sunset District have seen virtually no growth.  With an urgent housing crisis now 50 years in the making, the need for new forms of housing is ever more pressing. Inspired by traditional San Francisco two-level single-family homes in the Sunset district, this new typology of multi-family housing provides a range of unit sizes and configurations to fit a variety of incomes and lifestyles, from Studios and 1BR rental units at lower levels, to spacious 1BR, 2BR  and 3BR bedrooms on the upper floors.  Public amenities such as terraces and a coworking space, create a comfortable space for working from home.  Altogether,  this configuration increases the density of the site from one home to 12 units.
